Transcrio for Mac

A Fathom alternative for Mac recordings you keep locally.

Fathom turns supported meetings into live context, call pages, and team follow-up. Transcrio records microphone and Mac audio into source files first, then saves an optional transcript and summary beside them.

Short answer

Fathom organizes supported meetings. Transcrio keeps the recording files.

Choose Fathom when live meeting context, sharing, and follow-up should stay together. Choose Transcrio when any Mac audio should finish as a source recording and optional text files in your own folder.

Fathom stays close to the meeting calendar.

It recognizes scheduled meetings, offers capture modes for the result you need, and keeps the completed call ready for review and sharing.

Transcrio starts with a folder on your Mac.

It records microphone and system audio, keeps the source file whether or not you transcribe, and saves generated text beside the recording.

Fathom vs Transcrio

Compare what can be captured and what remains after the session.

Fathom now has bot-free Mac capture, so the useful distinction is no longer simply whether a bot appears. The choice is between a meeting-notes service and a recorder that leaves reusable files in your own folder.

Primary job
Fathom

Capture supported meetings, follow live context, and keep call pages ready for sharing and follow-up.

Transcrio

Record Mac audio first, then save optional transcripts and summaries beside the source file.

Capture choices
Fathom

Transcript Only, Audio Only, or Audio + Video. The first two are bot-free on Mac; video uses a bot.

Transcrio

Microphone, Mac system audio, or both, without joining the participant list.

Supported audio
Fathom

Standard Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams meetings, with documented support for Slack Huddles and iOS in-person capture.

Transcrio

Calls, browser audio, lectures, voice notes, and other audio playing on the Mac.

Files afterward
Fathom

Video recordings can be downloaded as MP4. Transcripts can be copied, but not downloaded directly.

Transcrio

Source audio and generated text are saved in a local session folder after recording.

Text timing
Fathom

The new Mac experience can show a live summary, followed by the call transcript and notes.

Transcrio

The transcript and optional summary are created after recording stops.

Platform boundary
Fathom

Meeting capture runs on Mac and Windows; the new bot-free experience is currently Mac-only.

Transcrio

macOS 15 or newer.

Fathom desktop capture, meeting compatibility, and export facts were checked against official Fathom help pages on October 2, 2026. Product behavior can change.

What you can take with you

Fathom offers call exports. Transcrio saves the session files by default.

Fathom currently documents MP4 downloads for recordings. Transcripts can be copied, but not downloaded directly. Transcrio finishes each recorded session with source audio on the Mac and adds text files when transcription is enabled.

Where each one fits

Choose the result you need after the call closes.

Fathom makes more sense when...

  • Your work happens in supported meetings and you want the calendar to drive capture.
  • You want live meeting context, shared call pages, action items, and team follow-up.
  • Video capture matters and a meeting bot is acceptable for that mode.
  • The completed call should stay available inside a meeting-notes service.

Transcrio makes more sense when...

  • You want a source recording saved automatically in a Mac folder after every completed session.
  • The audio may come from a client call, browser video, lecture, voice note, or another Mac app.
  • You want to decide later whether the recording also needs a transcript or summary.
  • You do not need live notes, a shared call workspace, or automatic team follow-up.

Before you switch

Transcrio does not replace Fathom's live meeting notes or team follow-up.

Transcrio has no live transcript, shared call pages, calendar-driven capture, team analytics, or native CRM sync. Recording works without the internet, but creating text uses online processing after the session.

Transcrio requires macOS 15 or newer. Fathom supports standard Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams meetings; its current bot-free experience is Mac-only.
